Do I need a macOS computer to compile macOS binaries?

What is the process for generating macOS implants? Without installing any additional software, I ran generate -o macos -a x64 --http https://<ip> and disabled gatekeeper on the mac to test it and chmod +x, but when I open it it just pops the terminal with the message /users/User/Downloads/implant_binary ; exit; and does not spawn a session. This is my first time using a mac, so I am still getting familiar with the various formats.
