One of the value lists in the FPI database is named Distribution. The values are Arid, Tropical, Sub-tropical, Temperate, Mountain, Mediterranean, Arctic, Sub-arctic
In plant databases, Distribution more commonly refers to countries, native and introduced. We would call these Climate Zones.
The FPI values list should relate to the Koppen climate zone which is a field that already exists in the ECHO Plant Database structure with a more granular list of options. Have a consistent translation of the FPI Distribution values to Koppen Climate Zone values, understanding that we are not taking best advantage of the more granular Koppen values.
Create a separate field for FPI Climate Zones for a direct placement of the values provided by FPI.
We may find ways to set various plants in better Koppen climate zones later.
