Certain plant records in the FPI database reference a table for nutrition values. Estimate is about 5000 plant records have nutrition data. Our goal is to increase the number of plants with nutrition data, but to make the nutrition records flexible enough to store and display unlimited fields.
A second, reference table may be needed to list the optional nutrients/antinutrients/toxins/medicinal value with a field layout.
A sample Canonical Nutrition Exchange Format is attached. This is a working document under development to be used for scripting the extraction of nutrition data from scholarly articles and lists.
