Caller ID display for locally stored contacts (Fossify Contacts)

I’ve noticed that when someone I’ve saved in Contacts calls, their name doesn’t show up on the call screen. It just comes through as an unknown number.

Is there a way for the app to show the caller’s name from its own contact list?

Maybe it could use the native “Appear on Top” permission for that.

Just wondering if this is already possible and I’ve overlooked it.

It's not possible with dialer apps other than Fossify Phone. If you're using Fossify Phone, you need to check Show private contacts to Fossify Phone... in Settings.

I'll keep that in mind for my future posts, thanks for letting me know.

By the way, I've been using OpenContacts for a while and it already has the feature we're discussing. The app feels just as fluid, though it lacks the option to configure ringtones for each contact individually. Which is why I came looking for an alternative. However this one seems to have another key issue.

Could this functionality be replicated in the Fossify Contacts app? (I shared the example above just to provide context, in case you could bring this to Fossify Contatcs).

I currently use my OEM's built-in dialer and replacing it would be difficult given the core features it offers.

Please let me know if this could rather be considered as a feature request and whether development on it might be possible development in the future.

No. That would require extra permissions and is out of scope for a contacts app. Fossify Phone is the only option if you want proper names in calls for private contacts from Fossify Contacts.
