I analyzed this issue in detail and here’s my proposed approach to solve it:

✅ Steps to Reproduce

Connect the HMC5883L sensor with PSLab hardware.

Open the PSLab Android App → Sensors → Magnetometer.

Observe that no readings are being displayed.

🔍 Root Cause Analysis

After going through the repository structure and related code files:

CommunicationHandler.java → Handles sensor communication. Possible missing or incorrect call for HMC5883L data.

AudioJack.java → Data transmission layer, may not be relaying correct data packets.

CSVLogger.java / GPSLogger.java → Logging works fine for other sensors, so the issue is more likely in the communication layer rather than logging.

It seems the I2C communication for HMC5883L is not being initialized or data packets are not parsed correctly in the app.

🛠️ Proposed Fix

Reproduce bug with real hardware to confirm behavior.

Inspect CommunicationHandler.java for missing implementation of getRaw() or readMagnetometer() function.

Check sensor initialization sequence (address 0x1E for HMC5883L must be configured correctly).

Use Android Studio debugger + logs (Log.d) to trace data flow from hardware → AudioJack → App.

Implement missing data read call and parse results.

Test with real device and log values.

Update CSVLogger and UI to confirm values are displayed & logged.
