Notifications for @-mentioned users

Sorry if this is premature and it's already implemented, but I don't see any documentation about whether a user who is @-mentioned in a comment will be subscribed to that issue for notifications.

I think this is an important feature to make sure users will be notified for participation if they are not already participating, watching, etc.

Does anyone know the progress of this issue? Or do you have another solution for this problem? Sorry for commenting on such an old issue...
