It seems specifiying the direction in which to scroll only works for downwards scrolling on android.
As a workaround, the shell swipe command could be specified on android and used as an override for scrolling up.
Ideally, however, we'd want to find out why the appium "scrollTo" command doesnt work on android for an other than default direction.
