Yes, you are allowed to fork and experiment with AI.

If you plan on opening a Pull Request to merge your changes, please be sure to follow the CONTRIBUTING.md guidelines
Also note that your custom fork build won't be able to authenticate against the official Lichess server, as the production WebSocket secrets are excluded from public forks.
