There is likely a naming conflict with https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man3/regcomp.3.html, of the kind "the call ends up going to that function and yours is ignored". I don't know why you get no warning at all when compiling and linking C code that tries to redefine this standard C function. Armin Rigo
