Describe the bug

The search blur is not consistently applied.

Steps to reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. I searched "hello" on google

2. Went back to the search bar and added a few more random letters

Expected behavior

The blur is always applied when in the search box.

Actual behavior

The background blur only works when the search bar is in its full width layout to display a second column. Any queries that don't result in the second column displaying won't have the blur applied.
