No Data Link

I have an alternate copy of 1.7.0 instrument-panel running under Ubuntu 20.04 on a wireless laptop; my main 1.7.0 instrument-panel runs well under Windows 10 on a dedicated Q6600 PC (so I seem to know what I'm doing).

I've spent quite a number of evenings trying to get the alternate panel linking to MSFS:- I can ping from Windows to Ubutntu and ping in reverse; the host IP address is set correctly, I've enabled the Ubuntu instrument-panel folder in Local Network Share and I've re-installed a few times. I don't want to use my crossover Ethernet cable. Any ideas?

The files simvarDefs.h and simvarDefs.cpp must be identical in both the client and server so if you have a later version of the client (instrument panel) you need to copy those 2 filed into your custom server and rebuild it.

Thank you for the thought. The instrument-panel build in Ubuntu was done exactly following your 1Dec21 reply in #41 thread and it runs as 'v1.7.0'. A quick test running instrument-data-link versions 1.6.5, 1.6.6, 1.7.0, 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 running as administrator on the MSFS host all gave 'no data link' messages. Quick (ping 192.168.1.xxx) check on both PC and laptop showed two-way connections. Another quick check of instrument-panel v1.7.2 running on host MSFS PC with 1.7.1, 1.7.0, 1.6.6 and 1.6.5 versions of data-link gave useful error messages showing byte mismatches; v1.7.2 data-link worked, of course. Apart from connecting with ethernet crossover cable I can't think of anything else at the moment. I'll work on it again after Christmas. All the Best.

A few more tries at getting Instrument-Panel in Ubuntu to talk to Windows 10 MSFS server:

1. Used 'sudo ./run.sh' in Ubuntu whilst disabling the Win 10 domain, public and private firewalls.
2. Checked that Win 10 'Network Discovery' and 'File and Printer Sharing' network and Internet options are turned on.
3. Made sure that the Win 10 'instrument-panel' folder Properties/Sharing/Advanced Sharing Permissions option is set for Everyone.
4. However, instrument-panel.exe runs OK under Wine on the Ubuntu laptop, though (see feature requests #41/12). I guess I have a Linux-Windows comms problem. I'm content to run Instrument-Panel this way for a while.

Another idea to get Linux and Windows talking -
Win 10/ Device Manager > Network Adapters > my network adapter > Properties > Power Management > Allow the computer to turn off this device. Seemed to work for some people - but not here.
Tried 'sudo ./run.sh' again, no luck.
The Windows version of Instrument-Panel on the laptop is still working under Wine, though.

Did you disable the Windows Firewall to see if that is not blocking the traffic?

Thanks fweinrebe, I see you've had yours running for over a year now. I've just repeated the test again, to make sure: Domain, Private and Public Network firewalls all switched off. Same result as last time - no data link. Switched all firewalls back on and was able to access SV Instr-Panel running under Wine/Ubuntu 20.04 on a laptop.

I can ping Ubuntu >> Win 10 and ... wait ... Ubuntu >> Win 10 isn't pinging (It was OK a couple of weeks ago). Trying to ping Ubuntu >> Router ... OK. Disable all firewalls again and ping = OK. Quick check of Linux SV Instr-Panel = No Data Link.

So, Network and Internet/Network Profile = Private On and Advanced Sharing Settings/File and Printer Sharing = On. Ping was OK this time but SV Linux Instr-Panel didn't work.

Another idea: in 'Windows Security/Firewall/allowed applications', turn on Virtual Machine Monitoring = didn't work.

Anyway, the Wine option works, so I'll live with that.

Didn't get it working (I would have posted out of courtesy) and, as I said, I just run the Windows version under Wine on the laptop.
However, I'm not doing much with MSFS at present, I run Cliffs of Dover for a couple hours a week. In fact, I destroyed my dedicated Beech Baron instrument panel to save space in my shed!
