Predbat to control Powerwall 3, Tesla Model y and/or Tesla Wall Charger. (at a push a Peugeot 3008 as well)

Hi all,

So I am new to HA and predbat and have zero coding knowledge, however through looking around across various sites I have managed to get predbat to control my PW3 for charging as I'm on Octopus Agile (No permission to export yet as only just installed) I've used an apps.yaml I came across from Ed Hull to do this, I have attached a copy and removed all other code other than to control the battery, solar forecast and octopus agile..

I have tried to update this to get predbat to control my Tesla or my wall charger using Teslemetry (it uses that to control the PW3) but to no success either nothing happens or it messes up the battery control. I simply want to be able let predbat control the chariging of the vehicle based on agile rates and allow me to set the required by time using select.predbat_car_charging_plan_time

I wonder if anybody could help me with this at all please as it is driving me crazy, it would be massively appreciated.

My wife does have another EV a Peugeot 3008 but not sure there is a way to control that via predbat unless anyone knows?

You're in luck with the Powerwall 3, the Ed Hull configuration has been taken and extended to cover discharging as well, and is documented, ready to go into the predbat documentation when I next push it in.

How is the Peugeot charged? The first step is to have the appropriate EV charger integration installed in Predbat, then Predbat can use that to control the car charging

And because the Tesla API can only handle 1 command every 5 or so seconds, it wasnt flipping to autonomous when doing discharge start.
hence using the battery reserve value instead, and relying on the tesla tarrif to take over, which i guess doesnt work as well for agile.

I agree, setting self consumption for this control is the right thing to do. But there would need to be some sort of delay between calling each predbat service.

On the agile tariff bit, as I mentioned earlier, the current solution sets the IOG tariff into the PW3 when exporting ends, which means (a) the PW still has some intelligence it could operate as to what it is doing when, and (b) how on earth would we handle non-repeating tariffs like agile, tracker as well as events like octopus powerup, free electricity and Eon saving sundays.
Instead am thinking we should be using Predbat to be doing ALL the battery optimisation otherwise the two could fight/contradict. So instead of loading an IOG tariff we load a "vanilla" tariff that means the PW just keeps in Demand/Eco mode and doesn't plan anything itself.

We're agreed we should set self consumption on stop charging and stop discharging? Shall I update the template.

The issue about slowing down Predbat talking to the PW, can we not just put a delay calls in the sequence of stop commands?
I don't know if we can simply execute 'service: delay'; there isn't a delay service calls in the actions list in HA, so maybe it doesn't exist, but worth trying.
Alternatively we could either code up predbat to understand a new pseudo 'delay' command.
Or we could call an automation script from predbat which has just a delay command in it. Calling scripts is the way many other inverters have done their automation (eg. look at Solax on my fork) and could lead to more clever routing/conditional logic.

And finally, we seem to have lost the freeze charge command from apps.yaml

Rather than setting it to the IOG tariff, we can set it to the current octopus tariff using the below. But then this only works with Octopus. the below gets your current rates from the Octopus integration and builds your plan on it. To force exporting you have to change the tariff as far as i know, so we have to change it back to something afterwards.

I agree with what you have said about loading a default vanilla tariff.
Perhaps we setup an automation to constantly set the peak for the current hour, meaning export is always available. And then we can use the toggles for allow export to control the export. And then we can force charging still by using the backup reserve slider. and then freeze mode just toggles it to self consumption which ignores the tariff.

If we can add a delay, ill give that a go, by understanding was predbat called all the actions under the service all at once rather than in sequence. But can give that a go.

freeze charge can be added in, the config from ed hull original one looks sensible. i had removed it because it wasnt being called for me while on IOG, and didnt get to test it.

I wont be able to test any of the above for a couple of weeks as in and out the country for work. but when i get some time i will give it a go.
