Production Readiness Checklist - Banking Platform

✅ COMPLETED

Build & Deploy

  • ✅ Docker image build reproducible (Python 3.11-slim, gunicorn 4 workers)
  • ✅ Image will be built/deployed via Railway on each git push
  • ✅ Automated CI deploy to production on main branch push

Configuration & Secrets

  • ✅ All prod secrets in Railway environment variables (not in repo)
  • ✅ GitHub secret scanning enabled and blocking pushes with hardcoded secrets
  • .env files excluded from git

Infrastructure & Networking

  • ✅ Railway PostgreSQL database configured and ready
  • ✅ Railway Redis cache configured and ready
  • ✅ TLS certificate provided by Railway (automatic)
  • ✅ Health check endpoint implemented (GET /health)

Database

  • ✅ PostgreSQL schema initialized and tested
  • ✅ Database migrations ready (SQLAlchemy)
  • ✅ Database connectivity verified from app

Security

  • ✅ Dependency scanning enabled (GitHub)
  • ✅ Container image scanning enabled (Railway)
  • ✅ Secrets scanning enabled (GitHub push protection)

⏳ IN PROGRESS / PENDING

Configuration & Secrets - FINAL STEPS

  • ⏳ Add DEPLOYMENT_MODE=production to Railway variables
  • ⏳ Add STRIPE_API_KEY=sk_live_* to Railway variables
  • ⏳ Add STRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET=whsec_live_* to Railway variables

Observability

  • ⏳ Log aggregation setup (Railway provides logs, consider external service)
  • ⏳ Metrics dashboard (Prometheus/Grafana or similar)
  • ⏳ Error tracking (Sentry integration)
  • ⏳ Alerts configured

Tests & CI

  • ⏳ Automated tests in CI/CD pipeline
  • ⏳ Load testing against production database
  • ⏳ Integration tests with Stripe/Plaid/Bill.com in production

Release Plan

  • ⏳ Rollback procedure documented
  • ⏳ Post-deploy verification script
  • ⏳ Maintenance window communication plan

🚀 NEXT IMMEDIATE STEPS (5 minutes)

1. Add Environment Variables to Railway

Go to: https://railway.app/dashboard → Your Project → Variables

Add these three variables:

DEPLOYMENT_MODE = production
STRIPE_API_KEY = sk_live_[your_live_secret_key]
STRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET = whsec_live_[your_webhook_secret]

2. Railway Auto-Redeploys

Once variables are saved, Railway automatically redeploys (2-3 minutes)

3. Verify Production Mode

python check_production_status.py

Expected output: All 4/4 items ✅ READY

4. Test Live Transactions

  • Create test Stripe payment
  • Verify funds posting in production
  • Check Bill.com integration active
  • Confirm Plaid data flowing

Current Deployment Status

Item Status Details
Railway Build 🟢 Building Git push triggered auto-build
PostgreSQL DB ✅ Ready Connected, schema initialized
Redis Cache ✅ Ready Connected for session/cache
Stripe Live Mode ⏳ Ready to Enable Keys obtained, pending variable setup
Domain/TLS ✅ Ready Railway provides automatic HTTPS
Docker Image 🟢 Building Based on latest git push

Production Configuration

Environment: Railway.app Pro ($20/month)

Services:

  • Python 3.11 + Flask 2.3.2 via Gunicorn
  • PostgreSQL 14 (Railway managed)
  • Redis (Railway managed)
  • Celery for background jobs

Entry Point: gunicorn --bind 0.0.0.0:5000 --workers 4 --timeout 120 src.app:app

Key Integrations (Ready):

  • Stripe (production mode - keys pending)
  • Plaid (production mode - ready)
  • Bill.com (production mode - ready)
  • Intuit/QuickBooks (production mode - ready)

Critical Path to Live

  1. ✅ Code ready and pushed
  2. ✅ Dockerfile correct (gunicorn entry point)
  3. ✅ Dependencies listed (requirements.txt)
  4. 🟢 CURRENT: Railway building container
  5. NEXT: Add 3 variables to Railway
  6. THEN: Railway redeploys (2-3 min)
  7. FINALLY: PRODUCTION LIVE 🎉

Verification Checklist

After variables are added and Railway redeploys, verify:

# 1. Check production mode is active
python -c "from src.config.config import Config; print(f'IS_PRODUCTION: {Config.IS_PRODUCTION}')"

# 2. Verify Stripe keys are set
python -c "import os; print(f'Stripe API Key Set: {bool(os.getenv(\"STRIPE_API_KEY\"))}')"

# 3. Check database connection
python -c "from src.database.schema import Database; db = Database(); print('DB: Connected')"

# 4. Verify Redis connection
import redis; r = redis.Redis.from_url(os.getenv('REDIS_URL')); print(f'Redis: {r.ping()}')

Estimated Timeline

  • Now to Build Success: 3-5 minutes (Railway auto-build)
  • Add Variables: 2 minutes
  • Railway Redeploy: 2-3 minutes
  • Production Live: ~10 minutes total ⏱️
