Resource error: causes, solutions, enhancements

Under various circumstances, MerMEId (presumably Orbeon) throws resource errors as shown below when trying to save documents from the UI. These errors occur at least:

• when exist switches to read only mode because of low disk availability
• when the saved file contains encoding issues

I'd like to use this discussion to collect cases when the error is thrown and discuss solutions concerning documentation or bug fixing.

#170 reports that the error occurs when there is low disk space. Probably this causation may be checked for and the error message could be rephrased.

NB in our installation (~10 GB of disk space), low disk space is always caused by logs.
