Cannot download playlist

When downloading a playlist, every video is overriding the previous video in ./tmp/video.mkv, without saving the processed video in ./videos/

At the moment, HomeTube doesn't support playlist.
It was designed, at the first time, to handle well single video downloads.
But adding playlist support with naming templates is in the planned todo features.
Then, it's normal every video is overwritten from the playlist.

The playlist feature is now operational with the new v2.
HomeTube can now download playlists with resilient and synchronisation strategy to mirror an online playlist. Please have a try and tell me what you think.

Just a bit curious on how the frontend webpage link with the backend yt-dlp progress? For example, when I started a list downloading, and closed the webpage, the downloading seems to finish the current episode and then stops.

It looks like that when I re-download the list from the web page, it won't duplicate the already downloaded episodes, just like using "--download-archive" in the yt-dlp command list, which works great.

My question is that, is there a way to make some downloading independent of frontend webpage, so that we can start a list downloading and just close the client web page and let it run in the server? Kind of like adding -d or --daemon in some linux command, or running some commands in tmux.

I'm sorry for the delay, I didn't receive a notification and didn't check out.
Thanks for your remark, and you are right, if you close the web UI, you likely kill the process behind as the downloading process is embedded in the web UI process.
I'm considering adding a solution for having the process able to run without the UI and adding as well an API then you can download anything without the UI (and you can kill the webpage and still have the process running).

However, I think HomeTube is also meant to perform downloads on manual intentions and having a few clicks to download forever contents from a pleasant UI is logical enough and a good user experience.

I will let you know when I implement the API feature 😉.

Hey thanks for replying. Yes I believe the target users are meant to be manual UI type of users (just like my wife). I discovered the need for background downloading only when I am testing out the the playlist function. For single videos it does not matter but it makes more sense for playlist becasue sometimes the list is very long and it takes time. In my experience using yt-dlp for playlist with command line, I always limit the the downloading speed to 500kb/s to prevent anti-robot mechanism, which makes it even longer. Thus I always start a tmux progress in linux and just let it run in the background.
