Epson XP-257: several 'bool' related errors

After trying to use the "Temporary Reset Waste Ink Levels" function, I get the following error message:

I'm doing this on my Macbook Pro, on which I'm running Tahoe 26.0.1
NOTE THAT I CAN'T COPY ANYTHING FROM THE STATUS BOX. Command + C or right click won't work (no menu shows when right-clicking.)

Please please please help me, even if I did something wrong in my request. I need my printer for school and I can't afford a new one, so I need to reset the waste ink levels, but something is going wrong. I will try my hardest to make the request as good as possible.

I'm using Python 3.14, perhaps that also influences everything - my friend said that the Python version could be the problem, after he saw the following screenshot:

the get_device_identification function is called, which in turn calls fetch_oid_values:

That function throws the There is no current event loop in thread 'MainThread' error here, which appears to be related to asyncio. As a consequence, False is returned as the device_id which leads to the other errors in the OP.

My knowledge about asyncio is limited but possibly this problem arises because of changes to asyncio in recent Python versions; perhaps it is useful to specify a recommended Python version in the README. Will try older Python versions to see if that fixes this issue.

(OP ended up using the .exe from the releases page on a Windows machine and successfully reset the waste counter 👍 )

I can confirm the same error using python 3.14:
