Is it feasible to spin out long-range interaction codes into a separate package? It would be useful for many other projects that may not use Molly at all, or need some modifications / generalizations.

It might be feasible for the long-range part. Having a quick look the excluded_interactions! function uses the PBCs which might be the hardest bit, as you would need some PBC logic.

The short-range part is much harder to extract as it uses the neighbour list machinery, but it is also easier to implement.
