How to display directories with a trailing slash?

New user here. I see that MC defaults to displaying directory names with a slash in front as in /Documents. Can this be changed so the slash appears at the end, as in Documents/?

Or maybe even [Documents] like Total Commander's default?

You seem to be misinterpreting what you see. The slash is just an indicator in front of directory names, but there are other indicators displayed in the indicator column (see the code and try to browse, e.g. /dev).

The directory names are printed just like file names in the next column without any modifications. They are highlighted according to the rules in the skin and filehighlight.txt:

Indeed, I did misinterpret what I saw. I didn't realize I was seeing a column. I thought the directory name had / prepended, but it's actually just a column there. I didn't really notice this because I had only looked at regular files and directories, and not things like executables, etc.

My original intent was to match the output of ls -F. With that flag, directories are displayed with a trailing /.
