Can we call perfect_model_obs directly from python?

Well, i know you can use subprocess module for interfacing, run the command and and pipe it as stdin to python

python setup input.nml & other input files
run pmo (or filter) - either just command or submit job.
python look at diagnostics

I'm thinking out loud, whether someone would want to call any functionality directly from DART, and I'm not sure.
