Gather settlement data in the Philippines

• - Download settlement data from https://www.ciesin.columbia.edu/data/hrsl/
• - For each data source, gather data for a year before pandemic (if available)
• - For each data source, gather data for a year during pandemic (if available)
• - Store data under Data > Settlement Data > Data Source Name (e.g. Data > Nightlight > Google Earth Engine)
• - Create/Edit the README.md file under Data > Settlement Data (sample README file: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1mOuP-hQU-fVOFIDpMNdwJU4NM_B6Xf6V)

@bbpajarito, I would also like to contribute here. I tried downloading the FB settlement data (2015) that thinking machines used for mapping wealth index in the Philippines..

The data is uploaded in our google drive. I also included a README google docs with pertinent information regarding the FB data.

No preprocessing done yet. It looks like the image below if zoomed. The data is a geotiff image in WGS84 projection with ~30m pixel resolution (if converted to meters). There is only 1 band with value of 1 to indicate settlement.

I will try to look for other sources as well. Hope this helps :)

Dear all,

Please check https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1eCo3iRH3UHHtw2FDq9Hj0aZXz8KsOtd6 for the latest files. Here are the updates:

• Downloaded settlement (2015) and population (2015, 2018) datasets from FB's HRSL
• Downloaded @joshuacortez 's barangay geojson file (2018 from source) and checked its geometry validity using QGIS3 Geometry Checker plugin. No errors are found
• No settlement dataset found during the pandemic
• Edited the readme file
• Readme showed population data as an indicator of settlement

Things to do (until Friday)

• Will aggregate settlement (total count of settlement) and population (total count of persons) per barangay following @joshuacortez 's approach; this will produce 4 datasets (2015 - settlement; 2015 - population; 2018 - settlement; 2018 - population) in csv
• Will also try concatenating the 4 datasets into a single one
