The first release has gone unchanged for months, it's about time that changes. The due date is when Chrome Web Store will start displaying the newly required data disclosures. The extension doesn't collect any user data and all preferences are stored locally, but changing the settings to reflect that requires submitting the extension for review again, as such it make sense to also push a real update along with the metadata changes. The due date is not necessarily indicative of when the next update will release, it may happen before that.
