@Porkepix This makes the text collide with the top bar on small screens, so this doesn't seem feasible.

How about hiding the text when input is focused?

How small would the screen needs to be? Most of the screen is empty on the screenshot. Are we talking about the same text, "Enter a city or location […]"? I'd be surprised it can't afford to have a one line or couple of pixels space between this line and the input field, even on smaller screens…?

@Porkepix Well, here's an example of my own device with a min DP of 360 (default)

You can see the text just disappears because there is not enough space. For most Android devices, it defaults to a range of 360dp to 411dp

From your screenshot, it does look modified?

No it's not modified (in the sense I didn't do anything custom), but as the screen resolution is big (2400x1080), I set the size (from what the OS/manufacturer offer me) to small, it results to 508dp.

Other choices offered by the manufacturer from smaller UI to biggest after 508dp are 432dp, 387dp, 387dp again but with UI still bigger (weird), 351dp and finally 320dp (where everything is so huge it becomes ridiculous).

And the lower the dp, the worst the result becomes as the input box starts to completely overlap background image and text.

Font size can also be modified (I'm at the second level, starting from the smallest).

Anyway these tests made me realize the input box isn't positioned relatively to the other elements like I thought but is an additional layer on top of it, which is the source of the result we see here.

@Porkepix Yep, seems like your screen is huge, but anyway, I don't think this can be fixed in any way (unless doing a full design change, which I really don't want to). Maybe I'll keep this open if I redesign this screen in the future

Not that huge on today's (too big, I agree) standards: it's a 6.5" screen. But the display resolution/DPI sure is big.

@Porkepix Makes sense, my phone is physically larger 6.78", but since the resolution/scaling is lower, that’s probably why you have a alot of usable space
