Walkür LAN Chat Non-Commercial License (WLNCL) v1.1

This license is not intended as an open-source license. It allows use and redistribution only for non-commercial purposes.

1. Definitions

  • “Software”: Walkür LAN Chat including source code, assets, documentation, and derived files in this repository.
  • “You” / “Your”: any natural or legal person who uses, copies, or redistributes the Software.
  • “Non-commercial”: use without direct or indirect commercial advantage, without monetization, and not used within any commercial/business activity.
  • “Commercial”: any use that (a) generates or is intended to generate revenue, (b) is part of a paid product/service, (c) is used in a company/project with profit intent, or (d) includes paid support/hosting/consulting. If you are unsure, the use is considered commercial.

2. Permission (Non-commercial use)

Subject to the terms of this license, you are granted permission, free of charge, to use the Software for non-commercial purposes to:

  • use it (private, hobby/community context, in non-commercial associations/projects),
  • copy and redistribute it,
  • modify it and create derivative works,
  • publish it, provided you comply with the conditions.

3. Conditions (Required)

If you use or redistribute the Software (or derivative works), you must:

  1. Keep visible attribution, e.g. in README, documentation, or an “About” section:

  2. Include this license file (LICENSE.md) unchanged.

  3. Do not remove copyright and notice lines in source code/assets.

  4. Mark changes if you redistribute modified versions (e.g. “Fork / modified by …”).

4. Prohibition (Commercial use)

Commercial use is expressly prohibited, including (but not limited to):

  • selling, licensing, renting, or bundling with paid products
  • use in paid services, hosting offers, or SaaS
  • use for paid support, consulting, or paid integration
  • use in companies/organizations to support business operations

5. Trademarks / Branding

This license grants no rights to trademarks, logos, or branding (Walkür Technology, Strategus One). Use beyond the required attribution is not permitted.

6. Third-party components

The Software may include dependencies (e.g. PySide6/Qt, Pillow, qrcode, markdown). These are subject to their own license terms. You are responsible for complying with them.

7. Termination

If you violate this license, your rights under it terminate automatically. Reinstatement may only occur if the violation is fully cured and the rights holder agrees.

8. No warranty / liability

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
