How can the Digital Library of the Middle East use Jaraid for metadata enrichment and also coordinate contributions to Jaraid from the MELA community?

This is not an issue with the project per se, just a way to surface an interest in collaborating.

The Digital Library of the Middle East (DLME) is interested in building a digital MENA serials viewer. I have a proof of concept for a metadata workflow using Jaraid metadata to enrich DLME serial metadata using the Eastview serials that looks like this:

• Harvest Eastview serials Marc metadata
• Create a yaml file mapping between Eastview ids and Jaraid ids
• Use the Jaraid ids to extract better quality metadata for the serials, including coordinates, consistently transcribed names, etc.

The idea is we could direct MELA volunteers to help us improve the metadata in the Jaraid authority files. But we have a few questions about how to contribute to the project, how to extend years beyond what is currently in project Jaraid (we can do this separately but it would be good to have a clean and continuous line between Jaraid and the external repo), etc. Would the Jaraid team be open to a discussion?

Hi , of course, our metadata is free . You can just use it in your project and extend it as you wish or we can help in extending and make it into a Jaraid 3.0. Till Grallert had already enriched the original Jaraid data. I (Adam) keep the master list updated separately also because that is all hand-made, not machine-generated. We are absolutely open to discussion, already when Guy Burak emailed us we answered positively. Let us know when/how you want to have a chat.
