Create Windows Setup instructions

Background

Windows setup instructions are missing from https://www.tanagra.dev/docs/instructions/setup.html.

Acceptance Criteria

• Instructions should include all dependencies
• Instructions should include at least the following steps:
  1. Install Python
  2. Install Pandoc
  3. Install (whatever is needed for PDF generation)
  4. Download Tanagra or clone it from GitHub
  5. Create symlink to Tanagra

Working draft of instructions below.

1. Install Python

To install Python, download the installer from Python.org, and then run the installer. Alternatively, you can installing the latest version of Python from the Microsoft Store.

2. Install Pandoc

To install Pandoc, download the installer from Pandoc.org, and then run the installer.

3. Install MiKTeX

Pandoc says:

By default, Pandoc creates PDFs using LaTeX. We recommend installing it via MiKTeX.

To install MiKTeX, download the installer from miktex.org, and then run the installer.

4. Install Tanagra

The recommended location for installing Tanagra is c:\Program Files\, but you can install it anywhere that you like as long as you create the symbolic link to it in the next step.

Download the zip file from the Tanagra repo, save locally, and extract to (recommended location) c:\Program Files\ so that the files are in c:\Program Files\tanagra\.... You may need to rename the extracted directory from tanagra-main to tanagra.

Clone the repo from GitHub:

C:\> cd c:\Program Files\
C:\> git clone https://github.com/KCarlile/tanagra.git

Add the path for tanagra to your PATH environment variable.

C:\> setx PATH "%PATH%;C:\Program Files\tanagra\;"
