The Ubuntu installer (subiquity) uses the largest capacity drive to perform the auto-installation...
This means that is you're using a USB thumb drive that is larger than the SDD/HDD in the system you're installing, it will try to install on your thumb drive and fail.
It also means that if you have another USB thumb drive or USB drive on the system that is larger than the internal drive, it will install Ubuntu on it...
I'll see how we could manage that.
