The latest version of OctoPi does not work with OctoDash and 3.5' rpi lcd (a) v3 xpt2046 - all the time screen is black.

Not at all. I used OctoPi with OctoDash (I had to install display drivers), and it worked fine until one of the OctoPi updates broke it. Since then, the display has been black.

I tried to do clean instalation of OctoPi and together with ChatGPT we managed to install LCD drivers and display random picture but after instalation OctoDash nothing happened

Same issue here and have found zero people talking about this or offering a solution online, on either the Adafruit (I'm using an Adafruit LCD TFT) or OctoPi side. Ever since updating to the latest OctoPi a few weeks ago (which I guess now uses Bookworm, whatever that is), no matter what I try with Linux files and settings, drivers, etc..., the LCD is only all black and will never display anything (I think it flashes white for a second) - no text, no code, no OctoDash, nothing. OctoPi/Print all works as normal using a phone app to print, but the touch screen is useless now. When I connect the Pi to an HDMI monitor, I can see OctoDash outputting to the monitor, and it recognizes when I tap the LCD touchscreen (even though it's black), but again, no mirrored display on the LCD despite using the same set up I always have.

Can someone please help us with the changes on the latest OctoPi causing this issue? Crazy that no one has addressed this anywhere.

I can confirm that. I’ve been using a Raspberry Pi 3 with OctoPrint and OctoDash for years. Since Python is reaching end of life, I followed the recommendation to flash a new SD card with OctoPi, installed the LCD drivers, and restored OctoPrint from a backup. Then I tried to install OctoDash; after restarting, the display lights up, then goes dark, and nothing else happens. OctoPrint is reachable via the web interface.

Same situation as @juergenheld here.
I had a RPi3B+ running happily with OctoPrint and OctoDash for over a year, then followed instruction to update 'cause Phyton reached end of life. I've flashed and re-flashed that poor sd-card over 20 times now to find a way to get everything back, with no success.
I have a Kuman 3,5'' HDMI touchscreen, and initially thought that the problem were the drivers but I tried to install Raspian alone and the touchscreen worked well.

Tried various order of installation (Octopi, Desktop, OctoDash, Drivers) but I end every time with a black screen OR with a series of error like:

(EE) Fatal server error: (EE) no screens found(EE) (EE)

Has anyone an idea to get out of this nightmare?

first of all I did
git clone https://github.com/goodtft/LCD-show.git
then
I did sudo cp nameofyourdisplay.dbto layout to /boot/firmware/layouts
be sure that you have a good overlay declared in /boot/firmware/config.txt
dtoverlay=tft35a:rotate=270 - for me

I managed this topic by add in 99-fbdev.conf

Section "Device"
    Identifier "SPI Framebuffer"
    Driver "fbdev"
    Option "fbdev" "/dev/fb1"

before that check that you have

/dev/fb0
/dev/fb1

by using this command
ls -l /dev/fb*
be sure that you have a good overlay declared in /boot/firmware/config.txt
for me is:
dtoverlay=tft35a:rotate=270 and you need to copy correct overlay to /boot/firmware/layouts

I did not install LCD driver by script - I

overall summary: with framebuffer and without X11- octodash start correctly but after few seconds - white or black screen

with X11 and without framebuffer almost the same.

anyway I think that Octodash is not compatible with Bookworm and 3,5 SPI LCD (the newest OctoPi)

Yes, I agree... there's something wrong between new OctoPi, OctoDash, Bookworm and the drivers of the touchscreen...

anyway... is there a way to get back to older version of everything (octoPi and Octodash), even if it has phyton EOF ?

I don't think the issue that you guys are experiencing are with OctoDash, but the underlying OS. But same thing, the debs are part of releases.

Adding to that, the issue is (probably) not anything specific to OctoPi either but something related to a change in Debian v12 (typically called Bookworm). OctoPi 1.0.x was based on Bullseye, the previous version, while OctoPi 1.1.x is based on Bookworm.

I don't have the resources to work on OS-level display issues (nor do I have many displays for testing with), but if we can pin down cases where the standard RPi OS GUi (from the install-desktop script in OctoPi) works but OctoDash doesn't, I'll certainly take a look at that.

Do we know which old version here was the last one before they started using the Bookworm-based Debian? I'm guessing you'd have to use any release prior to OctoPi 1.0.1 right? So anything 1.0.0 and back?
