Is there highlighting for external data sources?

I am curious if there is a highlight option for like an ajax or fetch result to highlight a specific search? The only references I can find are related to algolia as the source, but I am wondering if there is an option with the templating.

Highlighting is done in the backend, so your external source needs to do that as well.
