I think both games use the same engine and they do support widescreen, but it's vert- so there's constantly something important not being rendered around top or bottom parts of screen, and it results in not a very playable experience.

So, I got some updates. Regarding "X: Beyond the Frontier", I managed to fix the FOV already, will check if the FOV is proper in most of the game and doesn't need further adjustments. Here are 3 screenshots in triple monitor (5760x1080):

This seems great in principle, but when trying to run this here I get this in the logs:

[2026-05-01 12:33:46.205] [XTensionFOVFix] [error] Failed to locate camera FOV instruction memory address.

Did you write the pattern using 2.3 version, or Steam version? Is there any way I could help? Whipping out Cheat Engine to find another FOV pattern for 2.3, hoping that it helps? I'd need to find a way to rebuild the DLL though (I'm on Linux) but worst case scenario I have a Win10 VM available for dev work with VC++ build tools installed.

OK, I found something. The original pattern from X-BTF would work here, meanwhile the new one fails because of the extra D9 C9 at the end (FPU register swap) as opposed to the DC C0 I got here (adding FPU register st(0) to itself).

@alphayellow1 Do you remember what kind of conflict you had with the original pattern that forced you to make it more specific for X-Tension? Did you indeed do your RE on the Steam version, which could explain the Gold edition (GoG) mismatch I have here?

EDIT: TL;DR: changing the pattern for X-Tension back to the original pattern used for X-BTF should work just fine, at risk of potentially patching a second location as false-positive (which may not have any adverse effect, hopefully - will need to be tested on @alphayellow1's version of the game).

EDIT2: It does work. I don't generally recommend downloading binaries from random sources online, but if anyone needs the ASI until @alphayellow1 publishes a proper fix, here it is:

I also submitted a PR (#58), but as I mentioned earlier, it's nothing impressive, just reverting the pattern to the X-BTF version.

A final note @alphayellow1, I don't know if you tested boosting (with the Tab key) while using the FOV fix, but it seems to reset the FOV - the area we're patching is only related to initial calculation of FOV when changing resolutions, alt-tabbing etc, but not the codepath used for realtime FOV alterations when using boost.

Well not so final after all because I obviously got nerdsniped. I fixed post-boost FOV in both X-BTF and X-Tension, that's also available in my PR ; in case anyone needs the ASI before a release, they're available here XBTF+XTensionFOVFixes.zip (but as before, please prefer a real release once @alphayellow1 makes it available).
