forge console not working

I have installed jbds on 4 different machines, win 8 x64, and centos. Whenever i try to issue a command in the forge console, it says "command not found". But, forge is on the path, and i can run the examples in a standalone command prompt. It seems to me that eclipse is not "picking up" the environment variable for forge ("forge" works in standalone command prompt, but not in the forge console in jbds/eclipse). Is this happening to anyone else? I have also added the classpath to forge in eclipse, to no avail. It would be nice to see this working.
