Is the .record_directory_info check needed #173
Description
This check of the hidden file .record_directory_info seems really hidden to me as an user. We changed the disks, and I think that caused the inode to be different and then this failed. But from the error message, to me, the issue was really not very clear. I deleted the file, and then it failed one more time, but it eventually worked. To me, its not clear if this test is really needed? If its not needed, I would propose we just remove it. The simple we can keep the system the better.
