Add tests / test data with more dense regions

**Bug report**

For geometry like cone search, we should have a denser data set to confirm precision of calculations.

hats <= 0.8.1 geometry was not precise enough and grossly over-estimated distances. We believe the issue is addressed with #636, but should prevent regressions.
