Updates required to build and pass tests

Currently, when attempting to build this project, or run tests in a Node 16+ environment, multiple errors are encountered.  Any version of node older than 16 is no longer a currently-supported LTS release, and 16 is hitting EOL next week.  Updates are required to keep this project functional moving forward.
