Description
If I connect a PAL Sega Saturn, it is impossible to get HDMI output. Black screen only (OLED display shows 49,94 Hz), but audio is working. No matter what settings are set. I have tried more than one Saturn consoles... The TV-set accepts 24p/25p/30p/50p/60p over HDMI (tested successfully with HDMI BluRay Player).
If I use a japanese 60Hz Saturn, it's working fine.
I tried the Wii component output and there is the same issue: if I set the Wii to 575i or 576p, I get a black screen with audio working. ODV Web Interface log output looks fine, but...
I thought the TV-set is the problem, but with the BluRay player at 576p/50Hz its all working fine.
I investigated further and think to know where the problem lies.
According to the gbs-c log, the unit handles PAL signals with 768x576 pixel dimensions. That's probably why my TV do not accept this resolution mode. Usual and common for PAL is 720x576.
Can you add this resolution for ypbpr and scart input? And the same for HDMI output? If that is not the issue, it's probably an EDID issue?
From an other forum:
"720x576 is PAL.
everything else is only to help computer to display images like PAL.
computer displays have pixels with the same width & height.
PAL broadcast-monitor pixel width is a bit more than pixel height (exactly 48:45). so pixels have to be stretched horizontally on computer displays to look the same as in PAL broadcast-monitors.
720 x (48/45) = 768.
don't call 768x576 to be PAL. that's technically wrong! it's a computer image.
so every system storing PAL, does require to store 720x576. Everything else will loose quality because of interpolation."
