Cannot access file or directory errors when running doom commands, including doom install

Trying to install Doom but the install command always gives me an error message saying "Cannot access file or directory", and it looks like Doom is trying to write to a subdirectory in /var. I tried running other Doom commands to see if I get similar errors - which it does, for commands like doctor and gc. I'm trying to install Doom on my Emacs 30.2 installed on MacOS Sequoia 15.7.1 using MacPorts.

Solution's I've tried or things I looked up

• Tried installing and running Doom from ~/.emacs.d and ~/.config/emacs. Made no difference.
• Tried different Emacs installations available on MacPorts, which includes the below. Made no difference in the output.
  • sudo port install emacs (Installs emacs as a command in the CLI)
  • sudo port install emacs-app (Installs emacs in the Applications folder on MacOS)
  • sudo port install emacs -nativecomp
  • sudo port install emacs-app -nativecomp
• I hoped Issue 8134 would point me to a solution but in my case, doom is trying to write to /var for some reason, and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to change permissions in that folder.

Do you have any of $TMRDIR, $TMP, or $TEMP set on your system? What does emacs -q -batch --eval '(princ temporary-file-directory)' (run in the terminal) output?

• $TMPDIR is set to /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/T/
• (princ temporary-file-directory) gives me /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/T/%

Update: I tried installing Doom on a guest profile and I didn't run into any issues, so I think there is something wrong with my user profile's temporary folder and this is an OS specific problem. I found this issue in a completely different project where the poster ran into the same issue as mine. I'll mark this as closed for now and report back if I can find a resolution.

Update 2: Fixed it. I restarted my machine several times before, but this time I made sure to quit all applications and uncheck "Reopen windows when logging back in" for good measure. Installed without a hitch.
