Position New Window Warning icon for linked images without text over the image

I think it would be a nice enhancement to be able to position the icon over the image in certain scenarios. I.e., this:

Could this be achieved by adding a class to the plugin that can be applied to links to reposition the new window warning?

I have some reservations about implementing this. It requires adding position: relative (and sometimes even display: inline-block) to the link element, which can easily introduce layout issues in WordPress themes and plugins. There’s just no reliable way for us to apply that universally without risking breakage.

We could potentially implement this as an optional setting for those who want the effect, but it’s not something we can safely enable automatically.
