Description
Some readings are attributed to manuscripts and editions (using wit), but some are conjectures of scholars whom we encoded differently from other editors (for philological / methodological reasons: these scholars do not have a corresponding text to be visualized in the software).
An example from Lucullus:
<app from="#Luc-008-50" to="#Luc-008-51">
<lem
wit="#Bes #Chis_A #Harl3 #Laur1 #Linc #Pal6 #Ricc #Vat4 #Vat6 #Ven #ed.Rom #Pen. #Bev. #Min. #Asc.1 #Ald. #Asc.2 #Asc.3 #Crat. #Asc.4 #Herw. #Vict. #Sturm #Man. #Tal. #Lamb. #Grut. #Ern. #Halm #Bait."/>
<rdg type="sub-archetypal" cause="addition"
wit="#B #V #S #F #ν #ε #ζ #γ #Erl #Laur2 #Reg #Urb #Ven4 #Goer.">et quibus et
quasi</rdg>
<rdg type="lectio.sing" cause="intentional" wit="#A">et quibus <gap
reason="cancelled" rend="scratched"/> quasi</rdg>
<rdg type="sub-archetypal" cause="intentional"
wit="#B.c #Ambr1 #Chis1 #ed.Ven #Baz.">et quibus <del rend="underlined"
hand="#B.hand.c">et</del> quasi </rdg>
<rdg type="editorial" wit="#A.3">et quibus hec quasi</rdg>
<rdgGrp type="editorial">
<rdg wit="#μ #Reid" resp="#Rein.">a quibusdam et quasi</rdg>
<rdg resp="#Schütz">ab aliquibus et quasi</rdg>
</rdgGrp>
</app>
(at the very end, in the rdgGrp type="editorial")
The reading a quibusdam et quasi is attributed to 2 wits (μ and Reid) and a scholar, via resp (Rein.). Similarly, the reading ab aliquibus et quasi is a conjecture attributed to resp Schütz.
Currently the system does not show the attribute resp and its value:
It should appear next to the values of wit. In fact, I would suggest that (@matteodifranco do you agree?) it doesn't even have to be visually distinguished from the values of wit: it matters little to the user whether the author of that conjecture was encoded by us as an editor or a scholar. The only difference would be that, if the user clicked on the name of the scholar, they would not be led to the text of their edition (which does not exist) but to the index of people, where information about the scholar is given.
But the value of resp must be visualized, otherwise the reading is incomplete.
