Unable to scan "special" folders

I'm a new user of your add-on and I noticed it doesn't support scanning of special folders. I have the majority of my duplicates in my sent folders (no idea why) so it would be handy to be able to scan those folders too.

Also, as I haven't delved too much into this add-on yet, does it facilitate cross-account scanning as when I clicked the "Set original folder(s)..." context menu item, nothing happened; not even a check mark on the context menu so when I use the context menu again, over the same folder, it would indicate if that folder is selected or not. Right now, I have no idea if a folder is actually marked/set or not.

Keep up the good work. I'll be donating once it does some, not necessarily all, of what I need.

Further to my comments above, I have unchecked the "Skip Special Folders" box under "General" in the configuration, set "Sent" as the "Set original message folder(s) ..." and then clicked "Remove Duplicates" in the context menu and then I get a "Not searching special folders" dialog popup. So, although I've told it to include special folders, it doesn't; unless I'm doing something wrong again!

I'm not sure if your personal situation is better (I hope it is).

For what it's worth, I have exactly the same problem as adelphiaUK; even though "Skip Special Folders" is unchecked, I get the "Not searching special folders" message.

Here's how I reproduce it:

Initial state:

• Thunderbird 140.6.0 on Windows 10
• Remove Duplicates 0.6.4, "Skip Special Folders" is unchecked
• 11 add-ons installed, including "GMail Labels", and "Folder Pane View Switcher" (I don't think the others would interfere with folders).

Steps:

1. Click the "Sent" folder corresponding to "mailbox://nobody@Local Folders/Anciens courriels/xxxx%40yyyy.com manuel 1/Sent" (this is the path given by right-clicking on the folder and clicking "Properties" --- Note that I edited out my email address from the transcribed mailbox.)
2. Right click on the folder and select "Set original folder(s) for next duplicate search"
3. Right click on the folder and select "Remove duplicates..."
   I expected a window showing duplicates or "No duplicates found".
   Instead I get a popup saying "Not searching special folders".

Notes:

1. The folder I selected is not a special folder, in the sense that it's a local folder not connected to any mail server.
2. I tried to change the name of the folder to something other than "Sent", and the result was the same.
3. There are no errors in the Error Console.
4. The behavior is the same in "Sent" folders that are not in Local Folders (i.e. IMAP folders).
5. The behavior is the same if the steps are performed immediately after restarting Thunderbird.
6. I cannot reproduce the problem if I don't use "Set original folder(s) for next duplicate search".

Something confusing, perhaps not related:
Selecting a Gmail IMAP account and clicking "Remove Duplicates..." yields more duplicate sets and total messages if "Skip Special Folders" is unchecked than if it is checked, which I expected since excluding special folders would exclude some duplicates. However, messages from the "Inbox" folder are included even when skipping special folders; only the "Sent Mail" messages are excluded by "Skip Special Folders".

I'm available for testing if desired.

It seems that, somehow, my extension current tries to search the folder that's highlighted rather than the folder you right-clicked on. That might explain the issue here. (And, in fact, I am not even sure that this is all a single issue). I hope I can work on a fix for this soon.

I just tried it, and at first I got the same response as in my post of January 2.

Just to be sure, I tried again (let's call this test case One -- testing a "Sent" folder against itself):

1. I restarted Thunderbird
2. Checked that I had version 0.6.5.2b1 installed
3. Repeated the same steps as in my January 2 post
4. I got this result: "Not searching special folders."
5. I immediately right-clicked on the same folder and selected again "Remove duplicates..."
6. This time I got: "No duplicates found."
7. I keep getting the same "No duplicates found." every time I click "Remove duplicates..."

So, if I right-click on the folder and select "Set original folder(s) for next duplicate search", I get "Not searching special folders." once, and then I always get "No duplicates found." Remember: all these operations are on the same folder.

Trying this on two separate folders seems to work (let's call this test case Two -- testing a "Sent" folder against another "Sent" folder):

1. Right-click on folder "Sent A" and select "Set original folder(s) for next duplicate search".
2. Right-click on folder "Sent B" and select "Remove duplicates..."
3. A window of duplicates found in "Sent A" and "Sent B" is displayed.

I'm not sure if this version improves on test case One, which admittedly is not a very useful test (checking duplicates in a folder against itself).

I don't remember if I had tried test case Two in exactly the same way before, but test case Two seems to work.

I just noticed this comment you made on Jan 2nd:

And this makes my life a lot easier, since I can reproduce. I hope to make actual progress on this (rather than other bugs) soon.
