In order to clarify the intellectual property license granted with Contributions from any person or entity, the MIXI project ("MIXI"), maintained by Fabrizio Salmi, requires that every Contributor accept this Agreement.
By accepting this document, you confirm that you have the legal right to grant the permissions described herein.
"Contribution" means any source code, documentation, design, or other original material intentionally submitted to MIXI for inclusion in the project — for example, via a Pull Request on GitHub, a patch sent by email, or any other submission mechanism.
"Contributor" means the individual or legal entity making the Contribution.
Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, you hereby grant to MIXI a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable, transferable, and sub-licensable copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sub-license, and distribute your Contributions and such derivative works — in both open-source and commercial, closed-source forms.
If your Contribution is covered by any patents that you own or control, you hereby grant to MIXI and to any recipient of the MIXI software a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free patent license to make, use, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise transfer your Contribution.
This Agreement does not transfer the original intellectual property (the Copyright) of your Contribution to MIXI. You retain full ownership of your Contribution and the right to use it for any other purpose or project of your own. You have simply granted MIXI an unrestricted right to use it within the MIXI project and any derivative works thereof.
You represent that each of your Contributions is your original creation. If your Contribution includes third-party material (e.g., external open-source libraries), you represent that you have clearly identified it in code comments or documentation and that such material is licensed under terms compatible with MIXI.
If you are contributing on behalf of your employer, you represent that you have the legal authority to bind your employer to this Agreement, or that your employer has waived such rights for your Contribution.
You understand that MIXI is under no obligation to accept, merge, or use your Contribution.
This CLA is enforced automatically via the CLA Assistant bot on the MIXI GitHub repository.
When you open a Pull Request:
- The CLA bot will post a comment on your PR.
- You will be asked to confirm your agreement by commenting
I have read the CLA Document and I hereby sign the CLA. - Your signature is recorded and linked to your GitHub identity.
- The PR check turns green and your contribution can be reviewed and merged.
You only need to sign once. All future contributions are covered by the same agreement.
This agreement exists to protect both the contributor and the project. It ensures that:
- Contributors retain ownership of their work and can reuse it freely.
- MIXI can distribute, license, and evolve the project — including potential future commercial offerings — without legal ambiguity over contributed code.
This is standard practice across major open-source projects (Apache Software Foundation, Eclipse Foundation, Google, Microsoft) and is not a transfer of copyright.
