To Flannel contributors & users,
As we reflect on Flannel's journey and impact within the Kubernetes ecosystem, we believe the time has come to consider contributing the project to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).
Flannel has become a foundational networking solution for Kubernetes clusters worldwide. It's the default CNI in K3s, integrated into numerous distributions, and trusted by organizations from startups to enterprises. Our bi-weekly community meetings and active development demonstrate a healthy, engaged community committed to the project's success.
The CNCF makes sense and we believe it will enhance the project with neutral governance, increased visibility & long-term sustainability. Missions would be aligned and Flannel already integrate deeply with the Kubernetes ecosystem.
During the community meeting on Thursday December 18th, the idea was discussed and we unanimously agreed to go ahead.
We invite the community to discuss the details of this proposal during our upcoming community meetings (on Thursday January 15th at 8:30 AM PST).
We are also looking for new volunteers who would like to be involved in getting the project in proper grounds for the submission.
Your input is essential as we explore this opportunity to secure Flannel's role in the cloud-native landscape for years to come.
