Fix broken unit tests so CI passes #189
Description
There are currently broken unit tests in the repository which prevent the CI unit test job from passing. This issue is to investigate, identify the root cause, and fix any failing or broken unit tests so that all tests pass and the CI workflow succeeds. Please refer to the CI logs for details on the failing tests.
