Question: geodatafusion Release Timeline

Hi geoarrow-rs maintainers 👋,

First, thank you for your work on the geoarrow ecosystem! I noticed that the geodatafusion crate is still in development (0.1.0-dev version). Could you share if there’s a planned timeline for an official release of geodatafusion?

Would love to know:

1. Whether there’s a target release date/milestone
2. Any remaining blockers for a stable release

I think the main blocker to a release is just checking that it can build with the latest stable datafusion. There were some upstream fixes which led me to use git tags for the Datafusion dependency.

Looks like its pinned to apache/datafusion#16690, which is not in any released tag yet. So basically this is still pending a DataFusion release to verify everything?

Ah, yes, I'm quick to update to the latest arrow releases. In the future, we'll likely move geodatafusion out of this repo (or at least out of the current Cargo workspace) so that it can be developed independently while not needing to use the same arrow version as the geoarrow main branch.

DataFusion 50 should be released this week or so apache/datafusion#16799

I'll have a release of geodatafusion out whenever DataFusion 50 is released, and by next Monday at the latest, before I give a talk about it at the NYC DataFusion meetup 😅
