1.7 FS changes is being reset after reboot

After update to 1.7 any changes done from SSH are being rolled back after reboot.

1. I had mc installed as 2 tab commander is much faster than UI, obviously.
2. I had custom fstab entries to add swap from onboard eMMC and properly mount external HDD, which sometimes starting later then umbrel and leads to app crash.
   Its a little bit disappointing that this breaking change was not mentioned. Any ideas how to fix it?

I knew it because of this message if you open the console on your umbrel:

So if for example i would map a share on my external NAS i would do this via the /etc/fstab file. I know that after an OS update/upgrade i would lose these settings because i was warned. So i made copies of it and write it down in my notes app.

But if you never work with the internal console of your umbrel but for example ssh into your umbrel, you wouldn't probably know.

I just search quickly the internet for this case and i could not find any cases about this, only cases with apps....

Probably you have missed "reboot" in title.
In console clearly said between upgrades, not reboots. Do you feel some difference?
From 1.7 modifications are lost when umbrel just being reboot, so if for example you have edited /etc/fstab and then decided to turn off your mini PC - you can do it again. Electricity dropped? Again. Bought UPS and need to power off? Again.

No, after a reboot everything is fine. Only after an update/upgrade i always have to restore my own settings/changes. Just 5 minutes of work. Is it ideal? Maybe not. But for me no deal breaker.

But i will try this tomorrow with the new 1.7 version. This would be a bummer if all settings are lost!

If this is realy happening i have to create a script which restores my setting. (If this is possible 🫣)

I have one umbrel with v1.5. And one with the newest v1.7. So i will check. Thanks for the clarification!!

To be honest, i did not read the "reboot" in the title. My apologies.
I just upgraded my second miniPC from 1.7 beta 1 to 1.7.1 and also my tailscale install is gone where it was available in 1.7 beta 1.
Also my mc is gone and fstab additions.
This is bad.... (for me). I can understand why they protect their OS, but for me i could be a dealbreaker and i'm looking for other solutions for my homelab. My main umbrel on 1.5 will be active and i will not ugrade to 1.7.1 until they maybe "fix" this. Fix is not the correct word but you understand what i mean.

Can confirm: UmbrelOS' immutable/overlay-based behaviour of /etc/ and apt packages-removals (mdadm is gone after a reboot?!?) is not really user friendly.
I have a mirrored 2TB SSD on usb on my Pi5: gone after each reboot. grr.

Did I understand correctly that their rugpi-based immutable overlay is intentional to prevent unbootable states from bad configs during OTA updates? I'ld say roll this back: if I as a user want to fiddle with the config and therefor it breaks: my problem.

Now my only solution is finding another home cloud OS

Also following - It's a dealbreaker for me too.
Need to mount an iSCSi Block Storage for the Bitcoin Node. Therefore I need fstab changes AND package install (open-iscsi)

I use the Argone One V5 case with OLED, Zigbee, and the dual NVMe module from the same brand, along with my rpi5. But now, on version 1.7, I have lost the functionality of this peripherals. If the changes were intentional, then unfortunately I will have to stop using Umbrel in favor of other systems.

To save power, I had set cron on mine to shutdown late in the night, then configured the BIOS to wake up early in the morning.

Now I have to shut down manually because not only cron isn't installed by default, the crontab gets wiped on reboot.

I use an old PC to run Umbrel OS.
My main SSD doesn't have enough space to store the whole blockchain. I was using another drive to map the /home/umbrel/umbrel/app-data/bitcoin/data/bitcoin folder.
With this change, I can't do this anymore.
