Running program fine but no speech appears

I was able to install everything ok and the program runs fine with no errors, however there is no speech appearing. Any idea how to debug this. I have tested:

• My microphone with audactiy
• Parec on the command line which seems to work as the output is clearly correlated with my voice

Any idea how I can debug this?
