What happens to the plugin during clustering interruptions?

This behaviour in the HTTP File Upload plugin is unknown.

Clustering is a network facility, and will be interrupted at some point.
How does the plugin behave when clients can talk to a cluster node, but clustering isn't available?
Is this different when a client can reach both servers (rather than just one)?
