A Note on CheatEngine

Explainer

Folks in the Minecraft RTX Discord have recently discovered how to alter the built-in raytracing settings. They found how to adjust sun angle, tones, roughness, and more using a program called CheatEngine. The results are pretty neat:

Here's the problem

1. DON'T CHEAT IN GAMES
2. CheatEngine gets flagged by anti-virus software.
   • The free installer includes additional software, which is at the very least considered PUPs
   • Their forum argues that it's due to "crappy" anti-virus software. It's not. CheatEngine modifies memory values like a trojan would. I'm skeptical. It very well could be installing trojans because it's already installing PUPs.
   • The download from the CheatEngine Patreon page does not get flagged by anti-virus software. 🤔
3. Using CheatEngine is a copyright violation.
   • You could have your account banned.
   • The Minecraft RTX community hasn't heard from anyone with Microsoft, Mojang, or NVIDIA about these parameter adjustments. They're probably not as excited about this discovery.
