Documentation for .josh file

I have been looking around quite a bit but I can't seem to figure out the syntax.
Am I correct in assuming that the mappings are from a filter to another?

E.g:
mod/a = :/shared/a is <filter> = <filter>

Why the colon after the "="?
Why is the filter for a folder ::/shared/a yet in the workspace file you write :/shared/a?

I can't find any documentation for this and I am getting very frustrated :/

Hi,

The filters listed in workspace.josh are composed together, as if you wrote :[:filter1,:filter2].
Inside this composition, mod/a = :/shared/a is a shorthand for :/shared/a:prefix=mod/a.

This is technically documented in https://josh-project.github.io/josh/reference/filters.html#composition-filter1filter2filtern but I will admit it is not quite clear.

I think the main confusion was coming from the '=', it looked like it implied that lines in workspace files were a mapping between two things separated by the '='. But they aren't, correct? If I understand correctly the workspace file is just one composed filter then. I managed to make things work, I had completely misunderstood the syntax.

If possible I would suggest adding an example of a workspace file that involves many filters, and breaking it down in the documentation. That would have saved me a lot of headache.

Regarding the difference between :: and :/, this is in this case properly documented here: https://josh-project.github.io/josh/reference/filters.html#pattern-filters .

:/ will extract the target directory from the input tree and put it in the output root, while ::a/directory/ is a shorthand for :/a/directory:prefix=/a/directory (or a/directory = :/a/directory if you're inside a compose filter), meaning that a directory from the source tree is extracted then put in a directory of the same name in the output tree.
