Why are only Red Hat-based images used from Apache 5.0.x onwards?

Starting with Apache version 5.0.x, it seems that only Red Hat-based container images are being used, whereas earlier versions supported Ubuntu-based images as well.

I'm trying to understand the reasoning behind this shift. Specifically:

Why was the decision made to move exclusively to Red Hat-based images?
Are there technical, licensing, or support-related reasons for avoiding Ubuntu base images?
Is this a permanent change, or is there a plan to reintroduce Ubuntu-based images in future versions (e.g., 5.1.x or later)?
Any official references, documentation, or insights from contributors would be greatly appreciated.

This was done due to the support (backwards compatibility and update processes) behavior of UBI images compared to the Ubuntu ones.

We don't see any value in providing two different base-images. Was there some featureset that the Ubuntu ones provided that you are missing?
