Why is there a thumbnail in the top left of converted images?

I am converting TIF images to webp and every one keeps showing up with a thumbnail of the image in the top left. I unchecked the thumbnails option (which I realize is about metadata anyway) and also tried converting to jpg if that would do something different but it keeps happening. I really would like to turn this behavior off or this utility is useless to me. What is going on?

I think it is printing the exif data in the top left as it is specified in the metadata of the files. It happens when I run batcher from the file menu. But it does not happen when I open all the TIFs and run a quick export. Interesting. So my problem is solved.

Hi, try adding the gimp-image-remove-layer action (from the custom action browser). It appears that when a TIFF image contains a thumbnail, GIMP loads it as a separate layer. It seems there is no way currently to ignore thumbnails when loading TIFF images without a dialog (which is how Batcher loads them).

I'll add an import option for the TIFF format to discard these layers in a future version to avoid these surprises.
