Is using a grid aperture and wave propagation the best way to model a transmission grating? I'm trying to model shearing interferometry on an elliptical mirror in a soft x-ray beamline.

There are several types of transmission gratings. If your grating is of a checkerboard type, yes, you can use a grid aperture.

I resorted to the aperture because I can't get a laminar grating working. Do you have any examples using a laminar grating? I'm getting the error "AttributeError: 'LaminarGrating' object has no attribute 'rho_1'. Did you mean: 'rho0'?" When I set rho_1 to 1/rho I get a shape error for the normal.
